Acknowledgement of Country
Korumburra Secondary College respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we are situated, the Bunurong and Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respect to elders past, present and emerging and extend that respect to our Koorie students, families and staff at our school. We honour their deep connection to country and seek ways to inspire pride and identity among our Koorie students, and to foster understanding of First Nations culture across the school community.
Our Yarning Circle students have been involved in a collaborative art project with Bunurong artist Bianca Templar, of Takamuna Rrala Designs to create this stunning artwork for our new school sign. The hands represent the students and their journey of learning and growing both educationally and culturally, with the symbols chosen by the kids through their possum-skin cloak designs. The surroundings feature wave lines that represent the sea country, with rock and boulder outlines that represent the connection to land. Whenever people see this work, the artist wants them to be reminded of the importance of cultural growth and caring for the sea and land.
