Principal Message

I was extremely excited and honoured when in 2018, I was offered the position of Principal at Korumburra Secondary College. Originally from New Zealand, I too attended a rural high school and my years there have always held a special place in my heart. Prior to arriving at KSC, I was the Principal at Neerim District Secondary College for four years. I consider it a great privilege to work within rural communities to improve the experiences and opportunities for students. I am passionate about State Education, teaching and learning, and student and staff wellbeing. In addition to my teaching qualifications, and a Masters in School Leadership, I also have a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and am a keen writer of young adult fiction.

In my time at Korumburra Secondary College, the students, teachers, staff, parents, and community have worked hard to improve and achieve outstanding VCE results. In 2019, we made the Herald Sun’s most improved list for VCE results. We have faced several challenges, including our move to remote learning in Term 2, 2020, and the continuation of remote learning into 2021. Our students’ strong work ethic, outstanding parental support and dedicated teachers saw us approach this change with grit and determination. Our Year 12s have continued to thrive despite the pandemic’s disruption to their learning. I couldn’t be prouder.

Over the past 6 years, the staff have been working hard to develop, implement and now embed an Instructional Model. The KSC model identifies effective teaching practice and makes explicit to students the goals of each lesson or groups of lessons. It allows teachers to design activities which are engaging to students and which best meet students’ learning needs. In the remote setting, well documented lesson plans have made accessing online learning that much easier for students.

The Korumburra community and the KSC staff are determined to make KSC the best school in South Gippsland. We constantly strive to be innovative, and forward thinking. We are passionate in our goal of serving the Korumburra community and supporting all our students to be the best they can be.

Finally, we welcome prospective parents and students, and encourage you to take the virtual tour of our school on this website. To our current students and parents, thank you for your continued work and support as we continue to ‘aim high.’
