I was extremely thrilled and honoured when I was offered the position of Principal at Korumburra Secondary College. Originally from New Zealand, I too attended a rural high school. I remember my years there extremely fondly. I enjoyed a great education with teachers who knew me well. Although the community did not have a lot of resources, we were encouraged to be “Paeroa Positive” and proud of where we lived.
Prior to arriving at KSC, I was the Principal at Neerim District Secondary College for four years. During my time at NDSC, the school was able to boast high growth in Reading and Writing, excellent Student, Staff, and Parent Opinion Data, and outstanding VCE results.
I am passionate about State Education, teaching and learning, and student and staff wellbeing. In addition to my teaching qualifications, and a Masters in School Leadership. I also have a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and am a keen writer of young adult fiction.
Since arriving at Korumburra Secondary College, I have been impressed by the friendliness of the students and staff and the beautiful new STEAM building which is such an asset within the community. The staff have been working hard over the past three years on an Instructional Model. The KSC model identifies effective teaching practice and makes explicit to students the goals of each lesson or groups of lessons. It allows teachers to design activities which are engaging to students and which best meet students’ learning needs.
Moving forward, the College will be writing a new Strategic Plan. A school’s strategic plan runs for four years and drives the school’s planning and direction. Alongside the staff, I will be working hard to ensure KSC continues on its current course, and becomes an exemplary school for teaching and learning.
Finally, I would welcome any phone calls from current or prospective parents, or alternatively, if you have some time and are able to, please drop into the school and say hello.
